Five Baking Essentials Every Baker Needs

Five Baking Essentials Every Baker Needs

Here at Cookie Dough Collective, we know a lot about baking! Making edible and bakeable cookie dough is what we do! So we thought we’d share the essential items to get you started on your baking journey. Now let’s get creative in the kitchen!

Naturally, we love these items to whip up delicious edible cookie dough, but that’s just the beginning! From cookies to cakes and everything in between, these are a few of our favorite utensils:

OUR FIVE ESSENTIAL BAKING ITEMS

Baking Scale:

Ditch the measuring cups and buy a scale! Baking is a science and measurements are critical. Digital scales are best, and a bonus - you can switch between types of measurements (grams, mL etc.) when needed.

Alternative: Measuring cups or spoons. You can also use household items or old containers to guestimate, but it’s risky!

Rimmed Baking Sheet:

If you’re keen on cakes, you’ll also want to grab a baking pan but we use these sheets daily! Great for cookies, sheet cakes, bread, chocolate bark, etc. And you’ll use them again at dinner for roasting your veggies, meat, or frozen foods. The standard size (~38x26cm) is perfect for baking up a dozen Cookie Dough Collective cookies.

Alternative: In a pinch, a cast-iron skillet or foil roasting sheet will work for your cookies.

Silicon Spatula:

This is a must! You’ll find them in many sizes to get into every wee space. Great for mixing, stirring, spreading, and scraping. Also works great for for non-stick pots or pans, as it won’t scrape off the surface.

Alternative: a spoon will do the trick but you’ll definitely be licking the bowl!

Hand or Stand Mixers:

An investment but worth your while if you’re serious about baking. Hand mixers are great if you need more control over your mixing. But stand mixers are perfect for when you’re wanting the mixture to form with a repeated motion (bonus, you can multitask while it’s mixin’).

Alternative: a whisk or wooden spoon and a bit of energy will get you there with a bit of time!

Oven Thermometer

If your oven is anything like our first one, the temperature reading rarely matches the heat inside! This baby will cost you A LOT less than buying a new oven while saving your precious creations from turning into crumbly black lumps.

Alternative: A roasting thermometer can work, but if you’ve got a temperamental oven, we suggest keeping a close eye on your baking.

Wanna skip the mess in the kitchen and just get to the cookie dough? Stock up on our delicious edible, bakeable cookie dough. You can eat it straight from the tub (no baking required) or heat for easy and quick cookies.

We hope this helped you make the best choices for your baking needs, and we’d love to see what you’ve made—tag us (@cookedoughcollective) so we can see your creations!
